Our Cause
Solving the Early Literacy Crisis
Building a Brighter Future, One Book at a Time
Our Mission
At Need to Read, we believe that literacy is the key to lifelong success. We're committed to ensuring every child in Central Florida, especially those in under-resourced communities, starts school with the skills they need to read, learn, and thrive.
Why Early Literacy Matters
Why Early Literacy Matters
- 90% of brain development occurs before age 5
- 43% of children start kindergarten without necessary literacy skills
- Every $1 invested in early literacy generates a $7 return in long-term educational savings
The early years are critical. We 're ensuring every child has the tools they need to dream, grow, and achieve.
The Challenge We're Tackling
In Central Florida, particularly in under-resourced communities, children face significant barriers to early literacy. Lack of access to books and learning materials creates a gap that's difficult to close once children start school. We're changing that narrative.
Our Impact
Since 2020, we've distributed over 45,000 books, bringing critical literacy resources to children and families across Central Florida. Our events promote early reading, engaging both children and parents in fostering a love for books and learning.
Our Bold Solution
15 Title I Elementary Events in Central Florida
This year, we're launching 15 literacy events at Title I elementary schools across Central Florida. Each event includes:
- Book Distribution: Quality, age-appropriate books for home reading
- Family Literacy Engagement: Interactive family reading nights
